BARKERVILLE
British Columbia's Heritage of Gold
At the peak of its gold rush years, Barkerville was the largest city west of Chicago and north of San Francisco. After enduring various cycles of boom and bust, it became a Provincial Park and is now B.C.'s largest historic site. Actors, musicians and merchants keep the spirit of gold miners and shopkeepers alive in this living museum where visitors can pan for gold, ride stage coaches, and sample fresh sourdough bread.
With 50 colour photographs and 10 historical images, Barkerville bridges the past and present.
As well as a contemporary portrait of the town that helped bring British Columbia into Canada, the book includes tranquil winter scenes and an historical overview by Bill Horne.
For those who have traveled to the end of the Gold Rush Trail, it will bring back memories; for those who have not, it will be an invitation to rediscover British Columbia's past. Barkerville is the sixth in the series Discover British Columbia Books
